Sometimes trees need a little help to stay healthy and grow strong. Bob’s Tree Preservation has its own Plant Health Care specialist to assist in identifying problems with your trees and provide the best course of action to remedy it. Due to the high clay content soils in this part of the South, trees roots sometimes have problems taking up or even finding the required nutrients it needs to thrive. Bob’s Tree Preservation has several products that can help. Different fertilizers for different seasons, biostimulants and mycorrhizae to help fine root hairs acquire nutrients are just some of the services we offer.

At certain times during the year disease and insects can become a problem and can diminish the health of a tree. Our specialist is highly knowledgeable in the diseases that affect the trees in our region and more importantly, the best time and method to control them. We can put your trees on a spray program where they will be sprayed at the appropriate time to prevent disease from even occurring.

Timing is very important in the prevention and control of diseases such as fire blight, black spot, mildews and rusts.
Depending upon several factors such as precipitation amounts, temperatures and predator population, the quantity and type insects that infest your trees from year to year varies. We use reports from the extension service at LSU, our own chart of temperatures and observations from around the area to keep up to date with possible insect outbreaks. We can also design a spray program for insect control that takes the worry off you to remember to call for a control spray.

One of the best practices that you can do for your trees is to have them professionally assessed and any structural flaws or damage identified. Regular pruning can usually correct poor tree branching structure and mitigate prior damage. Pruning practices that can be done are: Crown Reduction, either laterally or vertically to reduce weight on branches which make the trees with bad branch attachments safer; Crown Thinning, allows more light and air through a tree canopy to aid grass growth; Crown Cleaning, removal of dead wood in a tree usually two (2) inches in diameter or larger for the safety of people or property below; Crown Raising, this type of pruning is usually done to clear branches over a house or drive. Any or all of these types of pruning can be done to make trees safer during storm season.
