One of the best things that you can do for your trees is to have them professionally assessed and have structural flaws or damage identified. Regular pruning can usually correct poor tree branching structure and mitigate damage.

Pruning practices that can be done are as follows:

• Crown Reduction – Either laterally or vertically, to reduce weight on branches, making the trees with bad branch attachments safer;

• Crown Thinning – allowing more light and air to pass through a tree canopy to aid grass growth;

• Crown Cleaning – removing dead wood in a tree usually two (2) inches in diameter or larger for the safety of people or property below;

• Crown Raising – a kind of pruning usually done to clear branches over a house or drive.
